How much does the program cost?
Alternative spring break with Israel Outdoors is a subsidizes trip to Israel. There is a $50 registration fee and a $250 refundable deposit that you will request from Israel Outdoors after the completion of the program. Participants are responsible for booking their flights. After you register for the trip, Israel Outdoors will send you a 15% EL AL discount code for non-stop roundtrip flights and a $700 flight subsidy. WashU Hillel will also be giving a $500 flight reimbursement after the completion of the program.
How do meals work?
You will receive a $100 food stipend on the first day of the trip. Most meals are on your own and not included in the trip. The only exception is Shabbat dinner on Friday night that we will cook all together.
What will we be doing?
We will be volunteering in agriculture, most likely harvesting fruits, vegetables, and flowers. There will also be an opportunity to travel to the South for a day and see the Nova Festival Site on a guided tour. This is subject to change based off of the needs of volunteers at that time.
Where will we stay?
We will be staying at a hostel in Tel Aviv. As the date gets closer we will announce the specific hostel.
What's the security like?
We will be taking a private bus to and from the volunteer sight. When we leave Tel Aviv as a group, we will have a security guard with us for the day. Itineraries through Israel Outdoors are approved and tracked by the Situation Monitoring Room, a service of the Ministry of Education, coordinated with Israel’s security agencies
How much free time will we have?
Volunteering will start around 7am and go until around 3pm. There will be free time everyday after volunteering and most nights. Some nights we will have required programming like guest speakers and group activities. We will try to make the schedule as flexible as possible so you have the most free time as possible. There will be no programming on Saturday.
